Conditional Knockout Mice
Conditional knockouts provide you temporal and tissue-specific gene knockout control while allowing the mouse model to mature under the normal operating role of your gene(s) of interest. The induced mutations cause a controlled inactivation of the targeted gene, providing a developed adult model without the function of your targeted gene.
These mouse models utilize the Cre-lox system. This is a site-specific DNA recombination through the interaction of the Cre recombinase enzyme and loxP sites in the DNA strand for the deletion of a gene in targeted tissues. This system allows an induced knockout of gene function in the mature adult mouse model.
