iTL is pleased to announce Professor Xiao-Yang Zhao from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), as the recipient of the First ISTT Young Investigator award. Prof. Zhao has been recognized for his pioneering research by Time magazine as the fifth of the top ten most important medical breakthroughs of 2009. Prof. Zhao’s exciting research has great potential to impact animal transgenisis and the medical field and iTL is proud to acknowledge his research along with the ISTT.
Prof. Zhao received his PhD in Developmental Biology from Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2010. He is currently the Young Principal Investigator of the Institute of Zoology (IOZ), CAS. Prof. Zhao’s research is focused on induced pluripotent stem cells. He and his colleagues have developed a system to generate induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells that show a 100 fold improvement in efficiency over the control method. iPS cells show great promise in the development of regenerative medicine applications and the generation of experimental animal models.
Prof. Zhao will attend the 10th Transgenic Technology meeting in Florida, USA on October 24-26, 2011. The award will be presented by iTL representatives and includes financial support to attend the meeting, and a 1 year membership to the ISTT. The International Society for Transgenic Technologies (ISTT) is a non-profit society composed of world pioneers, scientific experts, students and researchers across the globe with an interest in the generation of transgenic models for scientific research. iTL staff has been corporate members of the ISTT since 2007 and are excited to sponsor the ISTT Young Investigator Award.
