Stony Brook, New York, USA -- inGenious Targeting Laboratory (iTL) released a study of the performance of their 'iTLb' BALB/c mouse embryonic stem (ES) cell line for the creation of gene targeted, transgenic mice. The whitepaper can be viewed and downloaded here.

The BALB/c mouse line is frequently used in medical research, but has historic limitations for producing gene targeted or transgenic models. As the whitepaper presents, the iTLb cell line overcomes previous BALB/c limitations with high rates of homologous recombination and germline transmission. A notable unexpected observation is that low percentage chimeric mice display high germline transmission rates.
