Knockout Mouse with Reporter Gene

A knockout with reporter gene mouse model combines the power of a knockout and a knockin. This model type contains a reporter gene, such as the Beta-galactosidase reporter (lacZ), luciferase or other fluorescent reporters. The reporter serves as a marker for target gene expression. Genes can either be replaced by the reporter gene, so only the reporter is expressed under the endogenous mouse promoter, or the reporter can be fused to an endogenous gene of interest, so both the reporter and the mouse gene are expressed under the endogenous promoter.
