Why Model AGER
Ager is the mouse ortholog of human AGER and encodes RAGE, an immunoglobulin-superfamily cell-surface receptor that binds advanced glycation end products and other ligands. RAGE signaling has been associated with inflammatory responses.
RAGE has been associated with diabetic complications, inflammation, and other conditions, and RAGE-directed approaches are under study. Ager-deficient mice show reduced inflammatory responses in several models.
Model Applications
Humanized AGER (RAGE) models, in which the human receptor replaces the mouse counterpart, have been used to evaluate RAGE-directed agents in defined experimental settings.
