Why Model ANGPT2
Angpt2 is the mouse ortholog of human ANGPT2 and encodes angiopoietin-2, a secreted ligand of the endothelial receptor Tie2. Angiopoietin-2 has been associated with context-dependent regulation of blood-vessel stability and angiogenesis.
Angiopoietin-2 has been associated with tumor angiogenesis, retinal vascular disease, and vascular leak, and ANGPT2-directed approaches, including in combination with VEGF inhibition, are in use or under study. Angpt2-deficient mice show lymphatic and vascular defects.
Model Applications
Humanized ANGPT2 models, in which the human protein replaces the mouse counterpart, have been used to evaluate angiopoietin-2-directed agents in defined experimental settings.
