Why Model CD2
Cd2 is the mouse ortholog of human CD2 and encodes CD2 (LFA-2, T11), an immunoglobulin-superfamily adhesion receptor on T cells and natural killer cells. CD2 binds CD58 (or CD48 in mice) and has been associated with cell adhesion and costimulation of T-cell activation.
CD2 is a target of agents used in psoriasis and transplantation and has been studied in T-cell-directed therapy. Cd2-deficient mice are viable with altered T-cell responses in some settings.
Model Applications
Humanized CD2 models, in which the human protein replaces the mouse counterpart, have been used to evaluate CD2-directed agents in defined experimental settings.
