Why Model CD5
Cd5 is the mouse ortholog of human CD5 and encodes CD5, a scavenger-receptor-cysteine-rich family glycoprotein expressed on T cells and a subset of B cells. CD5 has been associated with modulation of antigen-receptor signaling.
CD5 is expressed on several T-cell malignancies, and CD5-directed CAR T cells are under study. Cd5-deficient mice are viable with altered lymphocyte responses.
Model Applications
Humanized CD5 models, in which the human protein replaces the mouse counterpart, have been used to evaluate CD5-directed therapeutics in defined experimental settings.
