Why Model CDH17
Cdh17 is the mouse ortholog of human CDH17 and encodes cadherin-17 (LI-cadherin), a calcium-dependent cell-adhesion molecule expressed mainly in intestinal and related epithelia. Cadherin-17 has been associated with cell adhesion in the gut.
Cadherin-17 is expressed on gastrointestinal adenocarcinomas with limited expression in many normal tissues, and CDH17-directed approaches, including CAR T cells, are under study. Cdh17-deficient mice show changes in intestinal mineral handling.
Model Applications
Humanized CDH17 models, in which the human protein replaces the mouse counterpart, have been used to evaluate CDH17-directed agents in defined experimental settings.
