Why Model CLDN6

Cldn6 is the mouse ortholog of human CLDN6 and encodes claudin-6, a tight-junction membrane protein of the claudin family. Claudin-6 has been associated with epithelial barrier formation and is expressed during development.

Claudin-6 shows limited expression in most normal adult tissues and re-expression in several tumors, which has made it a target of CAR T-cell and antibody approaches under study. Mice with altered Cldn6 expression show epithelial barrier changes.

Model Applications

Humanized CLDN6 models, in which the human protein replaces the mouse counterpart, have been used to evaluate claudin-6-directed therapeutics in defined experimental settings.
