Why Model CLEC9A
Clec9a is the mouse ortholog of human CLEC9A and encodes CLEC9A (DNGR-1, CD370), a C-type lectin receptor expressed on a subset of dendritic cells. CLEC9A binds exposed actin filaments on dead cells and has been associated with cross-presentation of antigens.
CLEC9A is a target for directing antigens to dendritic cells in vaccine and immunotherapy approaches under study. Clec9a-deficient mice show altered cross-presentation of cell-associated antigens.
Model Applications
Humanized CLEC9A models, in which the human receptor replaces the mouse counterpart, have been used to evaluate CLEC9A-targeted vaccine and immunotherapy approaches in defined experimental settings.
