Why Model F2RL1
F2rl1 is the mouse ortholog of human F2RL1 and encodes protease-activated receptor 2 (PAR2), a class A G-protein-coupled receptor activated by proteolytic cleavage. PAR2 signaling has been associated with inflammation, pain, and itch.
PAR2 has been associated with inflammatory skin and airway conditions and with sensory signaling, and PAR2-directed approaches are under study. F2rl1-deficient mice show altered inflammatory and sensory responses.
Model Applications
Humanized F2RL1 (PAR2) models, in which the human receptor replaces the mouse counterpart, have been used to evaluate PAR2-directed agents in defined experimental settings.
