Why Model GPBAR1
Gpbar1 is the mouse ortholog of human GPBAR1 and encodes TGR5, a class A G-protein-coupled receptor activated by bile acids. TGR5 signaling has been associated with regulation of energy metabolism, glucose homeostasis, and intestinal function.
TGR5 is studied as a target for metabolic and gastrointestinal conditions. Gpbar1-deficient mice show altered bile-acid and metabolic responses.
Model Applications
Humanized GPBAR1 (TGR5) models, in which the human receptor replaces the mouse counterpart, have been used to evaluate TGR5-directed agents in defined experimental settings.
