Why Model Ido1

Ido1 is the mouse ortholog of human IDO1 and encodes indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1, a heme-containing enzyme that catalyzes the first step of tryptophan catabolism along the kynurenine pathway. IDO1 activity has been associated with modulation of immune responses.

IDO1 has been associated with an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment, and IDO1 inhibitors have been evaluated in cancer; clinical results have varied. Ido1-deficient mice are viable and show altered immune responses in several models.

Model Applications

Humanized IDO1 models, in which the human enzyme replaces the mouse counterpart, have been used to evaluate IDO1-targeted agents in defined experimental settings.

Ido1 knockout mice have been used to study tryptophan metabolism and immune regulation.
