Why Model Il15
Il15 is the mouse ortholog of human IL15 and encodes interleukin-15, a cytokine that shares receptor components with IL-2 and is often presented in trans by IL-15 receptor alpha. IL-15 has been associated with the development and maintenance of natural killer cells and memory CD8 T cells.
IL-15-based agents, including IL-15 superagonists, are under study in cancer immunotherapy. Il15-deficient mice are viable and show reduced natural killer and memory T-cell populations.
Model Applications
Humanized IL15 models, often paired with IL-15 receptor components, have been used to evaluate IL-15-based agents and to support human immune-cell functions in defined experimental settings.
Il15 knockout mice have been used to study natural killer and memory T-cell biology.
