Why Model OSM
Osm is the mouse ortholog of human OSM and encodes oncostatin M, an IL-6-family cytokine produced by several immune and other cells. OSM signals through receptor complexes containing gp130 and has been associated with regulation of inflammation, tissue remodeling, and hematopoiesis.
OSM has been associated with inflammatory bowel disease and fibrotic conditions, and OSM-pathway-directed approaches are under study. Osm-deficient and receptor-deficient mice show altered inflammatory responses.
Model Applications
Humanized OSM models, in which the human cytokine replaces the mouse counterpart, have been used to evaluate OSM-pathway-directed agents in defined experimental settings.
