Why Model CCR6

Ccr6 is the mouse ortholog of human CCR6 and encodes CCR6 (CD196), a class A G-protein-coupled chemokine receptor that binds CCL20. CCR6 is expressed on Th17 cells, regulatory T cells, and other leukocytes and has been associated with their recruitment to mucosal and inflamed tissues.

CCR6 has been associated with psoriasis, inflammatory bowel disease, and tumor immunity, and CCR6-pathway-directed approaches are under study. Ccr6-deficient mice show altered mucosal immune responses.

Model Applications

Humanized CCR6 models, in which the human receptor replaces the mouse counterpart, have been used to evaluate CCR6-directed agents in defined experimental settings.
