Why Model CD24
CD24 (mouse symbol Cd24a) encodes CD24, a small GPI-anchored cell-surface protein expressed on many cell types. CD24 binds the inhibitory receptor Siglec-10 and has been associated with modulation of immune responses.
CD24 has been associated with a macrophage ‘don’t eat me’ signal in several tumors, and CD24-directed approaches are under study. Cd24a-deficient mice are viable with altered immune and hematopoietic responses.
Model Applications
Humanized CD24 models, in which the human protein replaces the mouse counterpart, have been used to evaluate CD24-directed agents in defined experimental settings.
