Why Model CLEC12A
Clec12a is the mouse ortholog of human CLEC12A and encodes CLEC12A (CLL-1, MICL), a C-type lectin-like inhibitory receptor expressed on myeloid cells. CLEC12A has been associated with regulation of myeloid-cell activation and inflammation.
CLEC12A is expressed on acute myeloid leukemia cells, including on leukemic-stem-cell-enriched populations, and CLEC12A-directed agents, including bispecific antibodies and CAR approaches, have been evaluated. Clec12a-deficient mice are viable with altered myeloid inflammatory responses.
Model Applications
Humanized CLEC12A models, in which the human protein replaces the mouse counterpart, have been used to evaluate CLEC12A-directed agents in defined experimental settings.
