Why Model CXCR5
Cxcr5 is the mouse ortholog of human CXCR5 and encodes CXCR5 (CD185), a class A G-protein-coupled chemokine receptor that binds CXCL13. CXCR5 has been associated with homing of B cells and follicular helper T cells to lymphoid follicles.
CXCR5 has been associated with germinal-center responses, autoimmune conditions, and certain lymphomas, and CXCR5-directed approaches are under study, including in cell therapies. Cxcr5-deficient mice show disrupted lymphoid architecture.
Model Applications
Humanized CXCR5 models, in which the human receptor replaces the mouse counterpart, have been used to evaluate CXCR5-directed agents in defined experimental settings.
