Why Model FCGRT

Fcgrt is the mouse ortholog of human FCGRT and encodes the neonatal Fc receptor (FcRn), an MHC class I-like receptor that binds IgG and albumin. FcRn has been associated with recycling and extended half-life of IgG and albumin and with transfer of IgG across cellular barriers.

FcRn blockade reduces circulating IgG and is used in antibody-mediated autoimmune diseases; FcRn also influences the pharmacokinetics of therapeutic antibodies. Fcgrt-deficient mice show reduced IgG and albumin half-life.

Model Applications

Humanized FCGRT (FcRn) models, often combined with human albumin or IgG components, have been used to study antibody and albumin pharmacokinetics and to evaluate FcRn-directed agents in defined experimental settings.
