Why Model Folh1

Folh1 is the mouse ortholog of human FOLH1 and encodes prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA), a transmembrane glutamate carboxypeptidase. PSMA has been associated with folate and glutamate metabolism and is expressed in prostate epithelium and some other tissues.

PSMA is highly expressed on most prostate cancers, and PSMA-directed imaging and radioligand therapies are used clinically. Folh1-deficient mice are viable under standard conditions.

Model Applications

Humanized FOLH1 (PSMA) models, in which the human protein replaces the mouse counterpart, have been used to evaluate PSMA-directed imaging and therapeutic agents in defined experimental settings.
