Why Model IGF1R
Igf1r is the mouse ortholog of human IGF1R and encodes the type 1 insulin-like growth factor receptor, a receptor tyrosine kinase that binds IGF-1 and IGF-2. IGF1R signaling has been associated with cell growth, survival, and metabolism.
IGF1R has been studied as a target in cancer, with mixed clinical results, and an anti-IGF1R antibody is used in thyroid eye disease. Homozygous Igf1r-null mice show growth deficiency and perinatal lethality.
Model Applications
Humanized IGF1R models, in which the human receptor replaces the mouse counterpart, have been used to evaluate IGF1R-directed agents in defined experimental settings.
