Why Model IL11
Il11 is the mouse ortholog of human IL11 and encodes interleukin-11, an IL-6-family cytokine that signals through a receptor complex containing gp130. IL-11 has been associated with effects on hematopoiesis and on stromal and epithelial cells.
IL-11 has been associated with fibrosis in several organs, and anti-IL-11 approaches are under study; a recombinant IL-11 has been used to raise platelet counts. Mice with altered IL-11 signaling show developmental and skeletal phenotypes.
Model Applications
Humanized IL11 models, often paired with the IL-11 receptor, have been used to evaluate IL-11-pathway-directed agents in defined experimental settings.
