Why Model IL1RL1
Il1rl1 is the mouse ortholog of human IL1RL1 and encodes ST2, a member of the IL-1 receptor family that serves as the receptor for interleukin-33. ST2 exists in membrane-bound and soluble forms and has been associated with type 2 immune responses.
The IL-33/ST2 axis is implicated in asthma and other type 2 inflammatory conditions, and ST2- and IL-33-directed antibodies are under study. Il1rl1-deficient mice show altered type 2 responses.
Model Applications
Humanized IL1RL1 (ST2) models, in which the human protein replaces the mouse counterpart, have been used to evaluate ST2- and IL-33-pathway-directed agents in defined experimental settings.
