Why Model Il33
Il33 is the mouse ortholog of human IL33 and encodes interleukin-33, an IL-1-family cytokine that can be released from epithelial and endothelial cells and acts as an alarmin. IL-33 signals through the receptor ST2 and has been associated with promotion of type 2 immune responses.
IL-33 is implicated in asthma and other inflammatory conditions, and IL-33- and ST2-directed antibodies are under clinical study. Il33-deficient mice are viable and show altered type 2 responses in disease models.
Model Applications
Humanized IL33 models, in which the human cytokine replaces the mouse counterpart, have been used to evaluate IL-33-targeted antibodies in defined experimental settings.
Il33 knockout mice have been used to study alarmin biology and type 2 immunity.
