Why Model IL21
Il21 is the mouse ortholog of human IL21 and encodes interleukin-21, a common-gamma-chain cytokine produced mainly by follicular helper T cells and other T-cell subsets. IL-21 has been associated with regulation of B-cell, T-cell, and natural killer-cell responses.
IL-21 has been associated with antitumor immunity and with autoimmune conditions, and IL-21-pathway-directed approaches are under study. Il21-deficient mice show altered antibody and lymphocyte responses.
Model Applications
Humanized IL21 models, in which the human cytokine replaces the mouse counterpart, have been used to evaluate IL-21-pathway-directed agents in defined experimental settings.
