Why Model ITGB7
Itgb7 is the mouse ortholog of human ITGB7 and encodes the integrin β7 subunit, which pairs with α4 to form α4β7 and with αE to form αEβ7. The α4β7 integrin binds MAdCAM-1 and has been associated with homing of lymphocytes to gut-associated tissues.
The α4β7 integrin is the target of the antibody vedolizumab used in inflammatory bowel disease. Itgb7-deficient mice are viable with reduced gut-associated lymphoid tissue.
Model Applications
Humanized ITGB7 models, in which the human subunit replaces the mouse counterpart, have been used to evaluate α4β7-directed agents in defined experimental settings.
