Why Model MMP9
Mmp9 is the mouse ortholog of human MMP9 and encodes matrix metalloproteinase-9 (gelatinase B), a secreted enzyme that degrades components of the extracellular matrix, including type IV collagen. MMP-9 has been associated with tissue remodeling, inflammation, and cell migration.
MMP-9 has been associated with cancer invasion, fibrosis, and inflammatory conditions, and MMP-9-directed approaches have been studied. Mmp9-deficient mice show altered tissue remodeling and inflammatory responses.
Model Applications
Humanized MMP9 models, in which the human protein replaces the mouse counterpart, have been used to evaluate MMP-9-directed agents in defined experimental settings.
