Why Model AGTR1
AGTR1 (mouse ortholog Agtr1a, with a related Agtr1b) encodes the angiotensin II type 1 receptor (AT1), a class A G-protein-coupled receptor. AT1 signaling in response to angiotensin II has been associated with vasoconstriction and regulation of blood pressure and fluid balance.
The AT1 receptor is the target of angiotensin-receptor blockers used widely in hypertension and cardiovascular and kidney disease. Mice lacking AT1 receptors show low blood pressure and kidney changes.
Model Applications
Humanized AGTR1 models, in which the human receptor replaces the mouse counterpart, have been used to evaluate AT1-receptor-directed agents in defined experimental settings.
