Why Model APLNR
Aplnr is the mouse ortholog of human APLNR and encodes the apelin receptor (APJ), a class A G-protein-coupled receptor that binds the peptides apelin and ELABELA/Toddler. APLNR signaling has been associated with cardiovascular function and fluid homeostasis.
The apelin-APLNR system has been studied as a target in heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, and other cardiovascular conditions. Aplnr-deficient mice show cardiovascular and developmental phenotypes.
Model Applications
Humanized APLNR models, in which the human receptor replaces the mouse counterpart, have been used to evaluate apelin-receptor-directed agents in defined experimental settings.
