Why Model Cd19
Cd19 is the mouse ortholog of human CD19 and encodes CD19, a B-lymphocyte surface protein of the immunoglobulin superfamily that functions as part of a B-cell co-receptor complex. CD19 has been associated with modulation of B-cell receptor signaling and B-cell development.
CD19 is expressed across most B-cell malignancies, and CD19-directed CAR T cells and antibodies are used in certain B-cell cancers; responses and durability vary. Cd19-deficient mice are viable and show impaired B-cell responses.
Model Applications
Humanized CD19 models, in which the human protein replaces the mouse counterpart, have been used to evaluate CD19-directed therapeutics, including CAR T cells and antibodies, in immunocompetent mice.
Cd19 knockout mice have been used to study B-cell signaling and development.
