Why Model FCER1A

Fcer1a is the mouse ortholog of human FCER1A and encodes the alpha subunit of the high-affinity IgE receptor (FcεRI), which binds immunoglobulin E. The alpha subunit has been associated with IgE binding, and the receptor complex signals in mast cells and basophils.

FcεRI is central to IgE-mediated allergic responses, and the IgE pathway is targeted therapeutically. Fcer1a-deficient mice show loss of IgE-mediated mast-cell responses.

Model Applications

Humanized FCER1A models, in which the human subunit replaces the mouse counterpart, have been used to study IgE-mediated responses and to evaluate agents targeting the IgE pathway in defined experimental settings.
