Why Model IL12B
Il12b is the mouse ortholog of human IL12B and encodes the p40 subunit shared by interleukin-12 and interleukin-23. The p40 subunit pairs with p35 to form IL-12 and with p19 to form IL-23, cytokines that have been associated with Th1 and Th17 responses.
The shared p40 subunit is targeted by antibodies used in psoriasis and inflammatory bowel disease. Il12b-deficient mice show impaired IL-12- and IL-23-dependent responses.
Model Applications
Humanized IL12B models, in which the human subunit replaces the mouse counterpart, have been used to evaluate p40-directed biologics in defined experimental settings.
