Why Model Il13

Il13 is the mouse ortholog of human IL13 and encodes interleukin-13, a type 2 cytokine produced mainly by T helper 2 cells and other immune cells. IL-13 signals through receptor complexes that include IL-4Rα and has been associated with promotion of IgE responses, mucus production, and tissue changes in type 2 inflammation.

IL-13, together with IL-4, is implicated in atopic dermatitis, asthma, and other allergic diseases, and IL-13-directed antibodies are in clinical use. Il13-deficient mice are viable and show impaired type 2 responses in disease models.

Model Applications

Humanized IL13 models, often paired with humanized IL-13 or IL-4 receptor components, have been used to evaluate IL-13-targeted antibodies in defined experimental settings.

Il13 knockout mice have been used to study type 2 immunity and allergic inflammation.
