Why Model IL1B
Il1b is the mouse ortholog of human IL1B and encodes interleukin-1 beta, an IL-1-family cytokine produced largely by myeloid cells. IL-1β is generated from a precursor by inflammasome-associated processing and has been associated with promotion of inflammation and fever.
IL-1β is implicated in a range of inflammatory and autoinflammatory conditions, and IL-1β-directed agents are in clinical use. Il1b-deficient mice are viable and show reduced inflammatory responses in several models.
Model Applications
Humanized IL1B models, in which the human cytokine replaces the mouse counterpart, have been used to evaluate IL-1β-directed agents in defined experimental settings.
Il1b knockout mice have been used to study inflammation.
