Why Model Gipr

Gipr is the mouse ortholog of human GIPR and encodes the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptor, a class B G-protein-coupled receptor. GIP-receptor signaling has been associated with glucose-dependent insulin secretion and with effects on adipose tissue and energy metabolism.

The GIP receptor is a component of dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonists used in type 2 diabetes and obesity, and its pharmacology is an active area of research. Gipr-deficient mice are viable and show altered responses to nutrient loading and to diet-induced obesity.

Model Applications

Humanized GIPR models, in which the human receptor replaces the mouse counterpart, have been used to evaluate GIP-receptor-targeted and dual-incretin agents in vivo.

Gipr models have been used to study incretin biology in defined experimental settings.
