Why Model IL22
Il22 is the mouse ortholog of human IL22 and encodes interleukin-22, an IL-10-family cytokine produced by several immune-cell types. IL-22 signals to epithelial cells and has been associated with epithelial barrier function, antimicrobial responses, and tissue repair.
IL-22 has been associated with inflammatory bowel disease, psoriasis, and other conditions, and IL-22-pathway-directed approaches are under study. Il22-deficient mice show altered mucosal responses in disease models.
Model Applications
Humanized IL22 models, in which the human cytokine replaces the mouse counterpart, have been used to evaluate IL-22-pathway-directed agents in defined experimental settings.
