Predominantly expressed in brain and testis, Akt3 is the mouse ortholog of human AKT3 and encodes the AKT isoform that governs neural progenitor proliferation and postnatal brain size through PI3K dependent PIP3 binding, PDK1 activation loop phosphorylation and mTORC2 hydrophobic motif phosphorylation, feeding mTORC1 and FOXO outputs in neurons and glia.
