Kcnj4, the mouse ortholog of human KCNJ4, encodes Kir2.3, a strong inward rectifier of the Kir2 family that differs from Kir2.1 and Kir2.2 in having lower single-channel conductance, weaker PIP2 affinity, and pronounced inhibition by intracellular protons, making it the pH-sensitive member of the group.
