Pfkl is the mouse ortholog of human PFKL and encodes the liver-type subunit of phosphofructokinase 1, the tetrameric enzyme that commits glucose to glycolysis by phosphorylating fructose 6-phosphate to fructose 1,6-bisphosphate, the step under the strongest allosteric control by ATP, citrate, AMP and fructose 2,6-bisphosphate.
