Second catalytic subunit of gamma-secretase, Psen2 is the mouse ortholog of human PSEN2 and assembles with nicastrin, APH1, and PEN2 into complexes localizing preferentially to late endosomes and lysosomes rather than the plasma membrane, giving PSEN2-containing gamma-secretase a distinct intracellular substrate pool and a documented role in mitochondria-associated ER membrane calcium handling.
