Nulls are viable and reproduce low bone mass with increased retinal and pancreatic vascularity, making germline deletion useful, while receptor-binding-domain knockins separate antiangiogenic from lipase-modulating and neurotrophic activities and conditional alleles isolate retinal pigment epithelium or osteoblast sources.
