Why model Aldoc
Aldoc, ortholog of human ALDOC, encodes aldolase C, the brain enriched class I aldolase known to neuroanatomists as zebrin II because its expression marks alternating parasagittal Purkinje cell stripes across the cerebellum. Catalysis follows the same lysine Schiff base chemistry used by aldolases A and B, splitting fructose-1,6-bisphosphate, but tissue distribution favors neurons and astrocytes, where glycolytic and shuttle flux support neurotransmission.
