Why model Cox17
Copper trafficking into cytochrome c oxidase begins with Cox17, the mouse ortholog of human COX17, a small twin CX9C intermembrane space metallochaperone that binds copper through conserved cysteines and hands it to SCO1 for the CuA site in MT-CO2 and to COX11 for the CuB site in MT-CO1.
