Cox4i2, ortholog of human COX4I2, encodes the alternative isoform of cytochrome c oxidase subunit 4 that predominates in lung, particularly in pulmonary artery smooth muscle, and lacks the ATP binding regulatory motif of the constitutive isoform, so complex IV containing it escapes allosteric inhibition by high ATP.
