Ndufa13, the mouse ortholog of human NDUFA13, encodes GRIM-19, a membrane arm subunit essential for complex I assembly that additionally functions as a negative regulator of STAT3, binding it and restraining transcriptional output, which gives the locus a dual identity spanning bioenergetics and growth signaling.
